Developing a strategic growth plan to support international expansion

Delta Hydraulics is a leading manufacturer of hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic hose assemblies and related components, with manufacturing operations in Tasmania and Thailand and customers across more than 30 countries. When a significant international customer opportunity emerged, the organisation needed a clear and compelling way to articulate its strategic direction, operational capability and long-term growth plans.

The Project Lab worked closely with Delta's leadership team to develop a concise strategic plan that would support customer confidence, strengthen internal alignment and provide a practical roadmap for future growth.

Challenge: Demonstrating capability to a major international customer

Case New Holland (CNH), one of Europe's largest manufacturers of agricultural and construction equipment, was seeking alternative suppliers of critical hydraulic components in response to disruptions in global supply chains. As part of its supplier assessment process, CNH required Delta Hydraulics to provide a strategic plan that demonstrated the organisation's capability, direction and capacity for future growth.

The opportunity presented the potential for:

  • A significant new multinational customer
  • Increased revenue and market opportunities

Solution: Strategic planning and business positioning

The Project Lab facilitated a structured strategic planning process to help Delta clearly articulate its direction, priorities and competitive strengths for both internal and external audiences.

Our approach:

  • Facilitated workshops with Delta's owner and executive team to undertake an internal and external business analysis.
  • Conducted SWOT analysis supported by PESTEL analysis to better understand market influences and strategic opportunities.
  • Worked with leadership to define a clear strategic direction and identify the operational priorities required to support implementation.
  • Developed a concise and accessible strategic plan that communicated Delta's vision, priorities and capabilities to customers, stakeholders and employees.

Project Results

The Project Lab helped Delta Hydraulics distil its strategy into a clear, practical and accessible strategic plan that could be used both internally and externally. The process provided greater strategic clarity and enabled the organisation to confidently communicate its direction to customers, partners and stakeholders.

The engagement delivered:

  • A clearer articulation of Delta's strategic direction and growth ambitions.
  • Greater alignment across leadership around future priorities and operational improvements.
  • A practical roadmap outlining key initiatives to support long-term business growth.
  • A concise strategic plan that could be communicated consistently throughout the organisation.
  • A customer-facing strategic document that supported engagement with major international manufacturers and procurement teams.
  • Greater confidence in communicating Delta's capability, direction and long-term vision to existing and prospective customers.

Most importantly, Delta was able to clearly communicate its capability, direction and long-term vision to existing and prospective customers, supporting future growth opportunities in international markets.

“The Project Lab worked very fast to assist Delta to produce its Strategic Plan that was succinct and in line with how Delta operates. The Strategic Plan has not only enabled Delta to articulate its plans throughout the organisation but also to bid for more work with major multi-national OEMs." – John White CEO, Delta Hydraulics
