The application process involved an initial submission of four very broad, long response questions forcing us to reflect on every aspect of our workplace practices and frameworks that we believe have been the drivers in building a great place to work for our current and future team. While all four questions provided a very well-rounded look into our practices, we loved and think every business should ask themselves the question ‘How do you know that being a great place to work helps your organisation to succeed?’.
For us, reflecting on the feedback and insights we’d recently gathered through our annual culture survey gave concrete evidence to admire the strong link we have between our team’s connection to the work they do, the community of belonging we have created at The Project Lab, the people frameworks we have implemented and our organisation's success.
Along with the submission, we had team members share testimonials on their experience working at The Project Lab and had a visit from the Employer of Choice panel. The process was rigorous, and the effort was worth it. It gave us a chance to reflect on who we are as an organisation and how we truly ingrain our values into our ways of working.
Achieving this recognition was no small feat. The application process was both complex and rigorous, requiring us to evaluate every aspect of our workplace practices and culture. From submitting detailed policies to showcasing real-world examples of how we care for our people, the process demanded time, energy and deep introspection.
The effort was worth it. It gave us a chance to reflect on who we are as an organisation and how we live our values every day. At The Project Lab, we strive to “Make it Matter,” and that begins with creating an environment where our people feel valued, supported, and inspired.
The Tasmanian Employer of Choice program recognises businesses that excel in creating positive workplaces. Employers of Choice demonstrate:
For us, these aren’t just checkboxes – they’re the foundation of how we operate. We believe in fostering career growth, providing meaningful work, and ensuring our people feel appreciated and empowered.
In a competitive job market, being recognised as an Employer of Choice sets us apart. It shows that The Project Lab is not only a great place to work but also a business that deeply values its people. This recognition helps us attract and retain the best talent while reinforcing our reputation within the Tasmanian community.
While we’re proud of this achievement, we know our journey doesn’t stop here. Being an Employer of Choice means continuously listening to our people, innovating our practices, and striving to do better. Whether it’s through flexible work arrangements, wellness initiatives, or celebrating team wins, we’re committed to making The Project Lab a workplace where people love to be.
Our journey to becoming an Employer of Choice taught us valuable lessons about building a people-first organisation. If you’re a business leader looking to improve your workplace practices or take the next step toward creating a thriving culture, we’re here to help.
